How to Use the Dog Calorie Calculator?

The Dog Calorie Calculator is very easy to use. Before you begin, select the appropriate unit system—Metric (weight in kilograms and height in centimetres) or Imperial (weight in pounds, height in inches or feet). This ensures the calculator uses the correct measurements for your dog.

Step 1: Enter Basic Information

Follow these steps:

  • Sex: Select whether your dog is male or female. This helps adjust the calorie needs based on metabolic differences.
  • Age: Please enter your dog’s age in years. Age affects energy requirements, and puppies, adults, and seniors have different needs.
  • Weight: Input your dog’s weight:
    • For Metric, use kilograms (kg).
    • For Imperial, use pounds (lbs).
  • Height: Enter your dog’s height:
    • For Metric, use centimetres (cm).
    • For Imperial, use inches and feet (inches or feet

Step 2: Set Your Dog’s Activity Level

Choose from the following options based on your dog’s daily activity:

  • Sedentary: Dogs that don’t get much exercise, like older or less active dogs.
  • Light: Dogs that get a little exercise, like short walks or playing indoors.
  • Moderate: Dogs that walk regularly or engage in light outdoor play.
  • Active: Dogs that get daily exercise, such as long walks or moderate play.
  • Very Active: Dogs that engage in vigorous activities, such as agility training or long hikes.
  • Extra Active: Dogs that have high-intensity workouts or jobs, like working dogs or those in competitive sports.

Step 3: Select Your Dog’s Goal

Choose your dog’s goal to help adjust the calorie calculation:

  • Maintain Weight: If you want to keep your dog’s current weight stable.
  • Mild Weight Loss: If you want your dog to lose weight at a gradual and healthy pace.
  • Weight Loss: For a more significant weight loss target.
  • Mild Weight Gain: If your dog needs to gain weight slowly.
  • Weight Gain: If your dog needs to gain weight more quickly, perhaps due to health reasons.

Step 4: Review Your Results

Once you’ve input the details, the calculator will give you a target daily calorie intake. This is the estimated number of calories your dog needs to maintain a healthy weight. Use this number to guide your dog’s diet. If your goal is to help your dog lose or gain weight, you can adjust the portions accordingly.
